Barbara and Graham's Family Tree

Wragg Page

Overview of the Wragg Ancestors

This part of the web site is about grandfather Edward Wragg and his ancestors.

His part of the family tree has been split into two diagrams, one is his paternal branch (the Wraggs) and one is his maternal branch (the Davises).

The Wragg Branch | The Davis Branch

The Wraggs originally came from Matlock in Derbyshire. They then lived in various villages in Derbyshire, finishing in Clay Cross. Granddad Edward then moved to Sutton-in-Ashfield Nottinghamshire in 1922. He did record some random jottings in 1988 about his life.

His grandfather John Wragg and great-grandfather William Wragg lived in Lumsdale in Matlock and both worked at the bleachworks.

 More about Lumsdale.

Edward's maternal line (the Davises) came from Staffordshire. They moved up to Clay Cross in the early 1870's. Edward's mother Emma Davis was born in Clay Cross and she was the illegitimate daughter of Margaret Davis. Unfortunately Margaret died at the age of 27 leaving Emma an orphan at the age of 3. Then in the 1891 census she appears as the adopted daughter of Simon and Emily Holmes. Simon and Emily were in their 40's and Simon was confined to a wheelchair due to a mining accident, but they had still taken on this responsibility of bringing up Emma. Simon and Emily are my great great-grandparents and their details can be found on the Holmes page.
